Our 4-week beginners course is designed to take you from a curious beginner to someone who can comfortably create their own pieces. This is a deep dive into the creative world of wheel throwing, held in our intimate studio in Killarney Vale.

Why this course?

Unlike large, crowded classes where it's easy to feel lost, we limit our intake to only 4 students. This ensures Ali is by your side every step of the way, providing the hands-on correction and "over-the-shoulder" support needed.

Course Structure

  • Week 1: Preparation & Finding Centre Learn the essential "behind-the-scenes" skills. We’ll cover wedging (preparing your clay) and master the physics of coning and centering, the most important foundation for every pot you’ll ever make.
  • Week 2: Rising Up & Finding Form This week is all about height and control. We’ll move from centering to "pulling the walls," focusing on the mechanics of creating steady cylinders and exploring how to manipulate the clay into different shapes.
  • Week 3: Refinement & Personal Style Now that you have the technique, we focus on production. You’ll spend the session creating your "keepers", focusing on consistency, wall thickness, and exploring forms like bowls or vases that reflect your own style.
  • Week 4: The Final Touch (Trimming & Detail) Pottery is won or lost in the finishing. You’ll learn how to use professional tools to "trim" your leather-hard pieces, adding foot rings, refining shapes, and stamping your maker's mark into your finished work.

What’s Included (I.e. everything)

  • 10kg of Keane Clay: A full bag of premium Australian Keane Clay is yours to use throughout the course.
  • Boutique Environment: Your own dedicated professional grade wheel in a class of only four.
  • All Firings: Professional bisque & glaze firings for your best pieces you create during the month.
  • Bonus Glazing Session: Once your journey is complete and your pots have been bisque-fired, you’ll be invited back for a free follow-up glazing session to bring your work to life with colour. Premium glazes are provided.

  • Progressive Learning: Our 4-week course is structured as a step-by-step progression. Each week builds on the skills of the previous one. For this reason, full attendance is recommended.
  • Make-up Sessions: Due to our intimate class size, we cannot offer make-up sessions or "catch-up" classes if you miss a week. If you do miss a session, you may find the following week challenging to navigate.
  • Age Requirements: This course is designed for adults. Young teenagers are welcome but must be accompanied by a participating adult.
